Having Trouble Getting a Blog Hop Pattern?
Please Read This First!
During a blog hop, I receive a large number of emails, so it may take me longer than usual to respond. Thank you for your patience!
These frequently asked questions should solve most common problems. If you have tried the suggestions below and still need help, please email me at [email protected]. I will do my best to respond within 24–48 hours.
Every Designer’s Process Is Slightly Different
Each participating designer manages their own website and pattern downloads, so the exact steps may vary from one pattern to the next.
As the event host, I have limited control over how each designer’s website is arranged. However, I require every participating designer to display a clearly marked blog hop button so the correct link is easier to recognize.
Depending on the designer, clicking that button may:
- Open the PDF directly.
- Take you to a direct download page.
- Ask you to subscribe to the designer’s email list before receiving the pattern.
- Take you to Ravelry or the designer’s shop to use a discount code.
- Provide additional instructions for claiming the free PDF.
Please carefully follow the instructions provided for that day’s featured pattern.
1. How Do I Get Today’s Free Pattern?
Start on the event page and locate the pattern featured for today’s date.
- Read the instructions provided for that pattern.
- Take note of the discount code, if one is provided.
- Click the pattern’s name, image, or GET PATTERN button.
- You will be taken to the designer’s website.
- Look for the clearly marked blog hop button.
- Click that button and follow the designer’s instructions.
You may need to scroll down the designer’s page to find the blog hop button. Because every website is arranged differently, the button may not appear in the same place each day.
2. I Clicked the Blog Hop Button, but I Cannot Find the PDF
First, check what happened after you clicked the button.
The PDF may have opened in your browser.
Look for a new browser tab or window displaying the pattern. From there, use your browser’s download icon to save the PDF to your device.
The PDF may have downloaded automatically.
Check your device’s Downloads or Files folder. The exact location will vary depending on your device and browser.
Your browser may have blocked the download or new window.
Check for a message asking whether you want to allow downloads, pop-ups, or a new browser window from the designer’s website.
You may need to subscribe before receiving the pattern.
If the designer uses a subscription form, enter your information and follow the instructions provided. The PDF may:
- Appear immediately after subscribing.
- Be available on a confirmation page.
- Be sent to the email address you entered.
Check your inbox, spam, junk, and promotions folders. Make sure you entered your email address correctly and allow a few minutes for the message to arrive.
3. I Subscribed, but I Did Not Receive the Pattern
First, check your spam, junk, and promotions folders.
You should also:
- Search your inbox for the designer’s name.
- Confirm that you entered the correct email address.
- Check whether you need to confirm your subscription first.
- Allow several minutes for the delivery email to arrive.
- Return to the designer’s page and reread the download instructions.
Each designer manages their own email list and delivery system. If the pattern still does not arrive, please contact the featured designer directly for help.
4. My Discount Code Is Not Working
Not every pattern requires a discount code. Check that day’s instructions to confirm whether one is needed and where it should be entered.
If a code is required, check the following:
You may be using the code in the wrong shop.
Use the blog hop button on the designer’s website to reach the correct pattern listing. The code may only work on a specific platform, such as Ravelry or the designer’s own shop.
The code may have been entered incorrectly.
Enter the code exactly as it appears on the event page. Check the spelling, capitalization, numbers, and punctuation. Also make sure there is no accidental blank space before or after the code.
The code may have expired.
Each pattern is officially available as a free PDF for its designated 24-hour feature day only.
Some designers generously leave their codes active for a few extra hours, but this is entirely at the designer’s discretion. A code from a previous day may already have expired.
You may need to be signed in.
Some shops, including Ravelry, may require you to sign in before applying a discount code or completing checkout.
5. How Do I Use a Discount Code on Ravelry?
Make sure you are signed in to your Ravelry account. Then:
- Click Buy It Now.
- Select Use a Coupon Code.
- Enter that day’s code exactly as shown.
- Click Apply.
- Confirm that the price changes to FREE/$0.00.
- Complete checkout to add the pattern to your Ravelry library.
If the price does not change to $0.00, do not complete checkout unless you intend to purchase the pattern.
6. Where Is a Pattern I Downloaded From Ravelry?
After you successfully apply the code and complete checkout, the pattern will be added to your Ravelry library.
To find it:
- Sign in to Ravelry.
- Select My Notebook.
- Select Library.
- Find the pattern and download it to your device.
Your downloaded file will usually be saved in your device’s Files or Downloads folder, although the location varies by device and browser.
7. I Missed a Day. Can I Still Get the Free PDF?
Unfortunately, probably not. Each PDF is available free for its designated 24-hour feature day only.
Some designers may leave their offer active for a little longer, so you are welcome to try the previous day’s link. However, extended availability is entirely up to the designer and is not guaranteed.
Many designers also publish a free version of the pattern on their website. If the free PDF offer has ended, check the designer’s page to see whether a free online version is still available.
If a complete pattern bundle is offered for the event, you may also purchase it to receive all the included PDFs without following the daily blog hop process.
8. The Pattern Still Has a Price at Checkout
Do not complete checkout unless you intend to pay for the pattern.
Before submitting an order, always confirm that the total has changed to FREE/$0.00.
If the pattern still has a price:
- Confirm that the pattern requires a discount code.
- Make sure you are using the correct code for today’s featured pattern.
- Confirm that you are on the correct shop or pattern listing.
- Re-enter the code exactly as shown.
- Check for a blank space before or after the code.
- Confirm that the code has not expired.
- Sign in to the shop if required.
If the price still does not change, please contact me or the featured designer for assistance.
9. I Accidentally Paid for the Pattern
Always confirm that your total says FREE/$0.00 before completing checkout.
If you accidentally purchase a pattern, contact the pattern designer directly. Each designer is an independent business owner and has their own policies for handling accidental purchases. Any resolution will be at that designer’s discretion.

The first email only came up this afternoon (Sept. 2 here). Is my only choice to now buy the pattern? Thanks.

Hi Margaret,
Did you try clicking through to the Day 1 pattern? Many participating designers leave their offer active for a little longer than 24 hours to accommodate different time zones.
If you received the Day 1 email today, that is most likely what happened, and the free offer may still be available. Please try following the instructions for the Day 1 pattern before purchasing it.
Best wishes, RaeLynn
