Headband Sizing Chart

Materials:

  • 3 shades of medium 4 worsted weight yarn – one light, one medium, & one dark.

NOTE:   The medium shade of yarn should be a blending of the dark & light shades.

~In this pattern I used Red Heart medium 4 worsted weight yarn:  Holly Berry (light) Claret (medium), and black (dark)

  • Crochet Hook size I/9 5.5mm (I use a hook made by Nelsonwood)

~ Total yardage: 75 to 100 yards

(Click HERE to find my favorite crochet tools & resources)

Abbreviations:

The pattern is written in US terms.

Chain stitch (ch/chs)

Slip-stitch (slp-st)

Single crochet (sc)

Double crochet (dc)

Stitch(es) (st/s)

Additional Notes:

  • At the end of each row when the pattern states “turn work, ch3, dc in the first st”, you can alternatively use the chainless standing dc here.

In fact, this is actually what I did for the pattern, however, I consider the chainless standing dc to be an advanced technique.  Thus, to make it easier for beginners/advanced beginners, I wrote the pattern in the standard way.

  • You can cut your yarn every time you change colors and then later weave in the loose ends.  However, you can significantly reduce the number of ends to weave in if you carry your yarn horizontally through your work – crocheting over it as you go – and/or vertically up the sides of your work.

I actually never cut my yarn during any color changes in this project except at the very end.  So I only had a few ends to weave in.

Resources

Carry the yarn horizontally through project

Carry the yarn vertically up the sides of the projec

This is the technique I used when designing this pattern.

Triumph Achieved! Reveling in the Vibrant Plaid Stitch Results!

Ah, the feeling of accomplishment—mission complete!

I know that navigating through the array of colors and mastering the art of yarn carrying in this project might have presented a few challenges.

Yet, let me assure you, the challenge is more than worth the effort!

The plaid stitch, with its playful and distinctive character, opens up a realm of creative possibilities. From hats to gloves and blankets, the options are endless.

Perhaps the most common hurdle lies in perfecting the color coordination, ensuring a seamless blend.

But don’t worry, I’ve provided a handy chart above to guide you!

Hi Khristie,

The cowl that matches this head warmer can be found here: https://itchinforsomestitchin.com/crochet-buffalo-plaid-cowl/

However, the cowl is one I did for Happily Hooked magazine and I have not yet update the post (it is on my to do list). As of right now it is not offered as a free pattern and I have not put it out for individual sale. I am in the middle of preparing a large Christmas blog hop event where you can get 32 free Christmas patterns (https://itchinforsomestitchin.com/christmas-crochet-patterns/) so I have not had time to put it up. If you are interested in purchasing it, please let me know and I'll be happy to put it in my shop for you ASAP.

Sincere thanks,

RaeLynn
