Hi folks! In today’s post, I am going to teach you how to crochet an easy bow.
Crochet bows actually used to intimidate me. It’s true!
Every time I saw a crochet bow online I honestly thought I would never be able to make one. For whatever reason, they seemed complicated to me.
I tackled crochet sweaters, beanies, shawls, and so on and so forth, but a little ol’ crochet bow. No way.

Then, just a few days ago, I did up a pattern for a sweater for an 8-week old puppy. When I finished the pattern, I decided it needed a bowtie.
So… in about 10 minutes flat I had whipped one up. A plaid one nonetheless. I just sat down and did it!
There was no pre-planning like there often is when designing works of crochet. A lot of the time I will have an idea and then sketch it out or even write it out ahead of time making the necessary changes as I crochet out the pattern.

Yet, that was not the case with this awesome little crochet bow. I simply sat down, grabbed a hook and yarn, and did it without even thinking about it!
In truth, the original plaid bowtie was more complicated than the pattern I am sharing today. That’s because the plaid stitch involves frequent color changes and there are three colors!
NOTE: The pattern for the plaid bowtie will be shared along with the 8-week old puppy sweater in a couple of weeks. I will update with a link once they are posted.
Since this crochet bow pattern is done only in one color, it’s much simpler than the little plaid bowtie. And yet… still super cute!
The big plus here is that this pattern is perfect for even the newest of crochet beginners!

Summary:
These cute little crochet bows are so easy even the newest of crochet beginners can do them! They can be done in 3 easy steps and 10-15 minutes flat. Easy peasy! Perfect for bowties on clothing or pet coats, hair accessories, or simply to adorn your other crochet projects like bags, headbands, gloves, beanies and more. You can even tie them to the top of presents for a unique gift bow. Make them up in your favorite colors and add them to your favorite projects for a fun and festive look!
Difficulty level: Level 1 – Beginner
Finished Dimensions:
About 4-inches long and 1.75-inches wide (at the ends).
Gauge: 16 stitches and 8 rows = 4-inches in half double crochet
Materials:
- worsted-weight (4) yarn
- Crochet Hook size I/9 5.5mm (I use a hook made by Nelsonwood, see my complete review HERE)
~ Total yardage for this pattern is less than 1 yard.

Abbreviations:
The pattern is written in US terms.
Stitch(es) (st/s)
Instructions:
Ch 14
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Rows 2-4: Turn work, ch 2, hdc in each st across.
~At this point, your project should be a small flat rectangle. (See photo below)
Finishing:
- Cut a piece of yarn about 12-inches (or longer if needed) in length. (See photo above)
- Tie the yarn around the middle of the crochet rectangle.
- Trim the remaining yarn ends or use them to add the bows to your other crochet projects.

There you have it! Only four little rows and some string. It couldn’t be any easier, could it?
Now that I am no longer scared to design my own crochet bows and can feel myself becoming a little “bow” crazy. I want to put them on EVERYTHING. LOL.
In fact, I have a pair of plaid gloves in the works and I may just embellish them with one of these sweet little bows!
